Important Update. In an algorithym update the major search engines are now placing an emphasis on how long a domain is registered for and they can now check this information. The minimum is usually 1 year with a maximum of 5 years. New domain names that are only registered for the minimum 1 year term may suffer a search engine ranking penalty from Google as they immediately consider it a non-authoritative domain. Registering for the maximum will avoid this new penalty and assist greatly in achieving a higher search engine ranking for your keywords.

Godaddy is my choice for a domain registar. If you get into the reselling business, they are probably the one most used by domainers. To change accounts between customers, all you need to do is use their email (then they simply complete the account change) If you use other registrars, customers have to create an account first and provide you with account details which is much more time consuming.
